About UMF™

The UMF (Unique Mānuka Factor) 15+ rating is an independent quality certification that verifies authenticity and potency. It confirms you're getting genuine Mānuka honey with all its natural goodness intact.

Flora Health Mānuka Honey is licensed by the Unique Mānuka Factor™ Honey Association in New Zealand. The UMF™ Honey Association is an internationally recognized, third-party verification system that confirms the identity, potency, and quality of mānuka honey.

UMF™ graded honeys have been tested for three signature compounds that are all needed to verify the honey is real Mānuka and made from Leptospermum scoparium  flowers: Leptosperin, DHA (Dihydroxyacetone), and Methylglyoxal (MGO).

The higher the UMF™ grading number, the higher the concentration of signature compounds found in the honey.

UMF™ is a quality trademark. The UMF™ grading system assesses natural markers in Mānuka honey to guarantee purity and quality.

Gordon C.

yes i wud like to know if your brand of manuka honey contains any peroxide ? my understanding is that it.s natural in mgo contain.s it i very happy with this product

FloraHealth USA

Hi Gordon,

Most raw honey naturally produces hydrogen peroxide. When bees collect nectar, they add a special enzyme called glucose oxidase. When the honey is exposed to a little bit of moisture or diluted, this enzyme kicks into gear and naturally creates tiny amounts of hydrogen peroxide.

Don't worry, its not like the bottle of peroxide you buy at the pharmacy! Its just a microscopic, natural defense mechanism that keeps the hiveand the honeyfree from bacteria. Its actually proof that the honey is raw, alive, and packed with its natural health benefits.

But, hydrogen peroxide is highly unstable. Instead of peroxide content, non-peroxide activity (NPA) is the parameter being measured in manuka honey. It is known to be the stable antimicrobial parameter even when the peroxide value is diminished.

Manuka honey has something even more special and unique to protect it, and that's methylglyoxal or MGO. In general, higher the UMF/MGO number higher the NPA, as MGO suppresses the enzyme that makes hydrogen peroxide. In the honey world, we call this shifting from 'peroxide activity' to 'non-peroxide activity (NPA).

One of the tests we do measures the NPA or non-peroxide activity to gauge the honey's potency.

Thank you for sharing such a great questions with us!

Best,
Flora Health

Is this honey raw, or not raw? I'm asking due to an immune impairment condition, I don't think I'm supposed to eat raw honey. Don't see that info.

FloraHealth USA

Hi Carol,
Our Flora Manuka Honey is not pasteurized but it is also not raw. It is warmed to around 125 degrees F to change it from crystal/hard form to a creamy consistency.
Best regards,
Flora Health
